FUNCTIONAl PRINCIPLE
FK-5-1-12 is stored as an extinguishing agent in pressurized containers. When released, it atomizes to form a gas that extinguishes the fire by removing heat. FK-5-1-12 is non-toxic and works primarily by cooling the flame rather than significantly displacing oxygen, making it safe for use in areas where people are present.
Because it does not deplete the ozone layer, unlike other synthetic extinguishing agents, and because it breaks down quickly in the atmosphere, it is considered a comparatively environmentally friendly solution for firefighting.
