Fire Extinguishing

Fire Extinguishing: fast, safe, clean

In addition to early fire detection, a comprehensive fire protection concept includes effective fire suppression to protect people, property and the environment. Various technologies are available for the most diverse requirements for effective fire extinguishing. At WAGNER, we focus primarily on gas extinguishing technology. In addition, we offer aerosol and water mist extinguishing solutions. These are used in particular for the fire protection of rail vehicles.

FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE

Gas extinguishing: Depriving the fire of its source

If a fire is detected, the gas extinguishing system triggers automatically via detectors or manually via manual release. The area to be protected is flooded with extinguishing gas after a defined delay time during which people are evacuated.

The operating principle is simple: the extinguishing gas removes the basis of a fire. Either the extinguishing gases suffocate the source of the fire by displacing oxygen from the environment (inert gases). Or they extract the necessary heat energy from the fire (synthetic extinguishing gases). This stops the fire from spreading at a very early stage. Thanks to their rapid deployment, fire damage is kept to a minimum and the extinguishing process itself is residue-free and non-destructive.

FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE

Aerosol extinguishing: Interrupts fire reaction chain

With aerosol extinguishing, the extinguishing effect is based on the interaction between the flames of the noxious fire and the aerosol – resulting in an interruption of the reaction chain of the fire. The aerosol generator is activated electrically. This generates the aerosol, which then flows into the protected area.

The technology is used where, for example, where gas extinguishing has its limits because the placement of the extinguishing gas containers is too complicated or the openings of the protected areas cannot guarantee sufficient airtightness to allow the extinguishing gas to penetrate the zone evenly. At WAGNER, we use this technology to protect the technical areas of rail vehicles.

FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE

Extinguishing with water mist: firefighting with the finest water droplets

Water mist extinguishing systems suppress fires by creating fine water droplets that have a large surface area. This allows the water to evaporate more quickly, effectively cooling and extinguishing the source of the fire. The resulting water vapor also helps to reduce heat radiation, and prevents the fire from spreading further. At the same time, the droplets trap smoke particles.

At WAGNER we use a unique technology where the water mist is generated at low operating pressure. This means that water consumption is significantly lower, the technology is safer to use in pressure sensitive areas and installation and maintenance are simpler than with conventional water mist systems. This technology is also ideal for use in passenger and staff areas of rail vehicles.
