Aqipa

"Gear Guru" warehouse protected by holistic fire protection

In 2019, the self-proclaimed "Gear Guru" Aqipa GmbH chose an active fire protection solution from WAGNER to protect its premium products stored in the automated compact storage systems at its Kundl site (Austria). The fire protection system was designed in accordance with TRVB 155.

It was clear from the start that a conventional sprinkler solution would not be sufficient for the automated compact storage systems. The "Gear Guru" warehouse, which houses consumer electronics products, is too compact for water to reach the source of a fire because of its high storage density. Another consideration was the negative effects of a fire on the goods due to high temperatures, smoke and extinguishing water. Our active fire protection system offers a suitable alternative.

The company has grown in recent years - and with it the demands on its own logistics. To meet these challenges, Aqipa decided to expand the warehouse at the company's headquarters in Kundl. In addition, several warehouses that were previously located abroad were to be centralized here.

Aqipa GmbH is a family-owned company in the field of consumer electronics. Its product range includes premium products such as headphones, loudspeakers and home cinema systems from brands such as GoPro, JBL, Braun Audio, Marshall and TEAC.

RISK ANALYSIS

Operational continuity is a top priority

Compact storage allows fires to spread quickly and freely. The bins in the automated compact storage systems are made of plastic (polypropylene), which drips in the event of a fire. Due to the use of robots and the high proportion of electronic components, there is also a risk of short circuits and overheating. The height of the warehouse also promotes the spread of fire.

PROTECTION GOALS

Protection of processes and operational readiness

  • Operational readiness: The availability of the automated warehouse must be maintained at all times to meet customer demands.
  • Supply chain: The supply chain must be uninterrupted and ensure a high level of delivery accuracy at all times.
  • Stock items: The high-value products in the warehouse are very sensitive to smoke and fire and need to be protected.

SOLUTION

Holistic protection: oxygen reduction and fire detection

The automated compact storage systems at Aqipa is protected against fire with a solution consisting of early fire detection using TITANUS® aspirating smoke detectors in combination with the OxyReduct® fire prevention system.

TITANUS PRO.SENS ® aspirating smoke detectors were installed in the compact warehouse for early fire detection. Thanks to active smoke detection, they have the ability to detect a fire as soon as it starts, 2,000 times earlier than conventional spot detectors. That gives you more time to take early countermeasures.

In addition, two OxyReduct® active oxygen reduction systems were installed. The system is located outside the compact storage facility. Nitrogen is piped from the outside into the protected area of the enclosed compact container warehouse. This reduces the oxygen concentration in the protected area and creates a protective atmosphere. This prevents the risk of a fire spreading.
