Since 2018, WAGNER has been effectively protecting the fully automated deep-freeze warehouse of ice cream producer Eisbär Eis in Ribnitz-Damgarten (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) against fire risks. Thanks to active fire prevention using oxygen reduction, product availability is always ensured. The fire protection system has been approved by TÜV.
Whether in a cone or a cup, ice cream is one of the favorite sweets of Germans, who eat around nine liters, or about 120 scoops, of ice cream a year. Eisbär Eis Produktions GmbH delivers this ice-cold treat: in Ribnitz-Damgarten, up to three million portions of ice cream are produced, loaded onto pallets and shipped to retail chains and delivery services throughout Europe every day. In order to meet growing demand and strengthen its own leading position in the market, Eisbär Eis built an additional deep-freeze warehouse at its Ribnitz-Damgarten site. For fire protection in this warehouse, Eisbär Eis relies on the OxyReduct® fire prevention system from WAGNER.
Eisbär Eis GmbH produces ice cream for retail chains and delivery services worldwide and exports to 27 European countries, as well as to Australia and the USA. This makes the company from Western Pomerania one of the largest ice cream producers in Germany.
RISK ANALYSIS
The high fire load in the deep-freeze warehouse results from the goods that are packed in cardboard, paper and/or plastic and stored on pallets. In addition, electrical components such as automated storage and retrieval systems, conveyor technology, refrigeration units, heat exchangers, defrosters and heating systems pose a further risk. The dry atmosphere with sub-zero temperatures of up to -24 °C further increases the risk of fire. The design of the warehouse, with a height of over 30 meters and a narrow structure, also favors the chimney effect, which can accelerate the spread of fires.
PROTECTION GOALS
SOLUTION
The solution that meets Eisbär's fire protection requirements is an OxyReduct® oxygen reduction system for active fire prevention. This system prevents fires from spreading, thereby protecting against fire-related damage and interruptions to the supply chain that could jeopardize operations. For the Eisbär Eis Produktions GmbH warehouse, two energy-efficient OxyReduct® V-Line systems are installed in a separate equipment room outside the warehouse.
The fire protection solution includes an early fire detection system. WAGNER has installed TITANUS® aspirating smoke detectors from the TITANUS® series for this purpose. The sampling points are located above the aisles of the deep-freeze warehouse, where they continuously take samples of the ambient air. Highly immune to false alarms and highly sensitive, they detect the finest smoke particles, thus enabling countermeasures to be initiated in good time. Smoke contamination of the goods can be prevented.
The combination of OxyReduct® and TITANUS® provides a comprehensive protection package for the ice cream producer Eisbär Eis.
