WAGNER protects the newly built paper roll warehouse of Paloma AG in Sladki Vrh, Slovenia, against fires. The new warehouse was commissioned in March 2021. The fully automated high bay warehouse for tissue paper is effectively protected by a combination of active fire prevention and early fire detection using aspirating smoke detectors.
Paloma produces jumbo paper rolls in a warehouse at its headquarters. These rolls are further processed into toilet paper, kitchen towels, napkins, handkerchiefs and universal towels for industrial and medical applications, as well as maxi rolls. Due to its properties, paper is light and highly flammable. A holistic fire protection solution is therefore a must.
Paloma has more than 140 years of experience in manufacturing and marketing tissue products in Europe and is the market leader in Southeastern Europe. The company exports and produces approximately 72,000 tons of tissue paper per year. Paloma is also part of the Slovak Hygienic Paper (SHP) Group, the largest hygienic paper manufacturer in Central and Eastern Europe.
RISK ANALYSIS
Fires can be caused by electrical components of automation equipment, such as storage and conveyor systems. There is also a risk of fire from the introduction of embers that may be present in the product. Due to the very dense storage of the goods next to each other and the characteristics of the product, the paper rolls are highly flammable and difficult to extinguish from the outside in the event of a fire.
PROTECTION GOALS
SOLUTION
The fire protection solution for Paloma is based on the principle of active fire prevention. The risk of an open fire with direct and consequential damage can thus be reduced. The solution designed and implemented by WAGNER consists of the OxyReduct® oxygen reduction system and early fire detection with TITANUS® high-sensitivity aspirating smoke detectors.
The system was designed and installed according to EN 16750. In order to determine the oxygen content for active fire protection, fire tests were carried out together with the customer at WAGNER's headquarters in Langenhagen. The result is a low ignition threshold so that the protected area cannot be entered without additional measures.
The fire protection equipment is located in a separate mechanical room adjacent to the warehouse.
